In a market environment that generates plenty of uncertainties, Platts Risk Market Data for Americas Gas and Power markets offers an independent, verifiable source of data to help you validate valuations and better align risk tolerance with business strategy. Some of your peers choose to use our forward curves to validate internally-derived curves, calculate mark-to-market valuations to determine profit and loss, or to calculate key metrics such as Value-at-Risk. Others use them to report the fair value of financial instruments, manage counterparty credit exposure and collateral requirements, or to assess the market value of assets and liabilities.

Platts Gas and Power curves are transparent and produced independently, providing you with market-based forward curves and supporting analytical data for key trading hubs. Platts Gas and Power curves are published based upon our use of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) settlement data. This data, along with our extensive spot price history and proprietary quantitative techniques, enables us to provide standardized, granular forward curves for liquid and illiquid trading hubs alike.

The North America Renewable Natural Gas Premiums capture the value of the environmental attributes of RNG above the price of pipeline natural gas, and so can be used to price RNG at any natural gas hub in North America. With state and federal incentives in place for RNG producers who sell into transportation fuels markets, the value of these incentives can provide a foundation for RNG transactions – both as a marker of value for use as a transport fuel and as the “price to beat” to divert supply away from transport fuels markets to other uses.

The S& Global Commodity Insights natural gas carbon intensity measures represent averages throughout the gas value chain in order to reflect:

  1. Blendings from multiple basin sources with varying production-level intensities
  2. Varying levels of required processing
  3. Large variations in transport distances from basin to key location

All such factors contribute to variability in the final carbon intensity by location. Lowest carbon-intensity locations are those with shorter transport distances from basin to key location, less processing requirements (i.e., dry sweet gas) and lower methane emissions throughout the supply chain.
